IN THIS LESSON

You’ve created backgrounds and characters. Maybe you already have a story in mind? It’s time to focus more on that story and be creative!

We recommend structuring your story before you start animating, using the Three Act Structure:

Beginning: Where are we? Who’s in the film? This is also the time when something happens in your character’s life. Maybe they get lost in the mountains and cannot find their way home.

Middle: Your character faces obstacles. Maybe they slip and fall in the water or maybe they meet someone.

End: Will they find their way home? It’s time to end the story and tell us where your character ends up.

Tips

  • One second of cut-out animation consists of around 12 images. Therefore, it’s a good idea to create a story with a lot of action and moving parts to make it exciting and engaging.

  • Don’t hold back. Good ideas are sometimes those ideas we think are too silly to say out loud. Brainstorm with your friends and have fun with it!

Psst… it’s also completely fine if you want to play around with it and don’t feel ready to structure a story. You can just skip to the next chapter.
