Our Filmmaker’s workshop Review: YLC 2017

Back in the October half term, three different Chocolate Films facilitators set off to three different locations in Lambeth – all bringing with them an exciting array of animation techniques for the young people of the borough to try!

Setting up animation stations at Oasis Play in Stockwell, The Charlie Chaplin Adventure Playground in Kennington and Lifelong Family Links in Streatham the Chocolate Films team created a fun and inspiring environment for the participants to explore animation in.

One of those techniques was paper cut outs. Across the three different centres, who cater for children with special educational needs, amazing work was created using this method! At some stations rockets blasted off into space, blowing up planets, with red paper fire and silver paper stars, whilst across the room other young people decided to animated more relaxing, laid back scenes, like beaches and peaceful mountains.

The results were very impressive!

On other days, the young people had a go at lego animation.

This was a great hit – automobiles and buildings were animated growing before our eyes, and one group even created an epic Star Wars battle, entirely out of lego!

The lightboxes made for some beautiful silhouette animation too – these films had a more mysterious feel, with ambiguous characters dancing around, a very fitting Halloween influence definitely made it’s way into some of these films!

All in all the week was a great success, many children who had never animated before came away with incredible films and great memories of creating their very own animations with their friends.

Here is what they created…
